We are very happy to announce the Preview Release of the 4D Face Model (4DFM). After making great progress on multiple fronts, we feel like we’ve got a great product for customers to preview now.

We’ve incorporated a few dozens scans into the identity model, and the result is already impressive, not the least because of our high-quality pipeline from start to end. We’re adding new batches of scans every few weeks, and the model is continually improving. Below are a few random samples from the current shape model:

We’ve currently incorporated about 20 facial expressions into the model. These range from facial action units like eyebrow-raising, lip puckering or left/right smiling, to more generic common expressions like puffing cheeks. Some example expressions (picture from our 4DFM products page):

To cater to the different scenarios in which the 4DFM might be used, we provide the model in two different resolution levels: A standard resolution (left picture, below) and a high-resolution mesh (right picture). The first one is targeted towards real-time applications where processing time, memory or battery life counts, whereas the latter one targets scenarios where a higher polygon count is beneficial and computing time is not so much a factor, or GPU-accelerated graphics pipelines are used.

Lastly, the model also comes with a set of UV coordinates to facilitate texture remapping out of the box:

We’re furthermore in the process of building a per-vertex colour model, which is sometimes also called albedo or appearance model (depending whether or how the source scans are  preprocessed). This part is very much work in progress, and will be available later this year or in Q1 2019. A sneak peek at a few early pictures:

A big thank you goes to Dr. Andrew Keeling from the School of Dentistry of the University of Leeds, UK, for all the hard work and for collaborating with us to build an amazing 3D face model.

The preview is available now, get in touch with us for more details & pricing.

If you are nearby, come see us at Booth 1Z178 at the VISION 2018 trade fair in Stuttgart (Nov 6-8), where we will be presenting our products.
